New Pop Art Collection

Although I was aware of the work of Andy Warhol, when I visited his exhibition in the Hugh Lane Gallery earlier this year it caught me off guard.  I saw how Andy Warhol used the rich and famous in his art and how the whole pop art movement grabbed the attention of a new audience.  So I thought, what if I used pop art to draw attention to our fellow creatures who have no voice in our changing world.

So this is what happened, I took my paints and oil pastels and reimagined my Save the World Collection.  I know it’s not to everybody’s taste, but I love them!  My daughter Dara has always said that it looks like my animal paintings are giving you the side eye – they seem to connect with the viewer.  The Pop Art Collection will be available as wall art in the coming weeks.

I hope you enjoy them.

Christmas 2020 – We’ll make the most of what we have

christmas mammy we'll make the most of what we have

christmas mammy we'll make the most of what we have

Christmas 2020 looks like it will be like no other.  I’ve created a mini range of Mammy Christmas cards to express what we’re feeling, like ‘Covid is a fecker’.

I spoke to my own mother about this.  My mother is kind hearted and even though she is having a tough time recently, she does her best not to complain.  My mother represents her generation with how she doesn’t get carried away with things and is not impressed with flamboyance.  I asked her recently what advice she would give to people coming up to Christmas this year in light of the challenges we are facing in the midst of this pandemic.  As always, the answer was clear and wise.  “I’d tell them that we’ll make the most of what we have”.

So in the words of my mother, let’s make the most of what we have this Christmas and count our blessings.

Save the World

save the world cards by catherine dunne

I’ve just added more animals to my ‘Save the World’ range of greeting cards. Piglet, Donkey and the Elephant. I’m passionate about this range and its underlying message about saving the planet and awareness of the animals who will also be impacted yet have no voice.

These greeting cards come with an eco friendly, recycled brown Kraft envelope. Here is Zebra and Orangutan.

The Christmas Reindeer who saved the World

The Christmas Reindeer who saved the world

This is the story of a magic reindeer named Milo, who saves the world from plastic.  Milo asks Santa to help tell the world about the plastic in our seas.   This is a lovely story for small children all about Santa, his elves, local mermaids and Milo.

This story is fun and lighthearted but also has a very relevant message.  The time has come to change our thinking about plastic.  We are passing on this world to our children.  It’s time for us all to pull together.

The inspiration for Milo the reindeer came from the true story of a wooden reindeer who went missing over Christmas from Kinvara in 2016 and was found in a field in Kinvara a week later, following a nationwide appeal.

New illustrated ‘as gaeilge’ collection

I’ve just launched a new collection of ‘as gaeilge’ illustrated greeting cards.  I had fun designing them and I think my favourite is the beetle card, ‘aithníonn ciaróg, ciaróg eile’ – literally meaning ‘one beetle recognises another beetle’.  In other words ‘it takes one to know one’.  Another of our lovely Irish sayings.

I hope you enjoy this collection.

Ray D’Arcy talks about the Kinvara Reindeer who saved Christmas

The lovely Ray D’Arcy spoke about my new Christmas book on his show on 7 November 2017.  Really delighted that he not only liked the book but that his son loved it too.

Fair play to national radio presenters giving small businesses a shout out.  It makes such a difference and makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks Ray!
